\u201ccool.\u201d    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcnoea5l00063b6ncqsaqndo@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            And no matter where you live, the personality traits that make someone \u201ccool\u201d appear to be consistent across countries, according to the study, published this week in the Journal of Experimental Psychology.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcnoea5l00073b6nnakfwtb6@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            The researchers found that, compared with people considered to be \u201cgood\u201d or \u201cfavorable,\u201d those considered \u201ccool\u201d are perceived to be more extroverted, hedonistic, powerful, adventurous, open and autonomous.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcnoea5l00083b6n9i140wit@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            \u201cThe most surprising thing was seeing that the same attributes emerge in every country,\u201d said Todd Pezzuti, an associate professor of marketing at Universidad Adolfo Ib\u00e1\u00f1ez in Chile who was a co-lead researcher on the study.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcnoea5l00093b6nbl5t80ts@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            \u201cRegardless of whether it\u2019s China or Korea or Chile or the US, people like people who are pushing boundaries and sparking change,\u201d he said. \u201cSo I would say that coolness really represents something more fundamental than the actual label of coolness.\u201d    <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"subheader inline-placeholder subheader-elevate vossi-subheader vossi-subheader--size-h2\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/subheader\/instances\/cmcnpxofb00033b6mf06ekl0x@published\" data-component-name=\"subheader\" id=\"cool-isnt-the-same-as-good\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">        \u2018Cool\u2019 isn\u2019t the same as \u2018good\u2019<\/h2>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcnoea5l000a3b6n7q1dk4zv@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            The researchers \u2013 from Universidad Adolfo Ib\u00e1\u00f1ez, the University of Arizona and the University of Georgia \u2013 conducted experiments from 2018 to 2022 with nearly 6,000 people across a dozen countries: Australia, Chile, China, Germany, India, Mexico, Nigeria, Spain, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey and the United States.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcnoea5l000b3b6n25utedwp@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            The participants were asked to think of a person in their lives whom they perceive to be \u201ccool,\u201d \u201cuncool,\u201d \u201cgood\u201d or \u201cnot good.\u201d They were then asked to rate that person\u2019s personality using two scales: the Big Five Personality scale, a widely used scientific model that helps describe personality traits, and the Portrait Values Questionnaire, intended to measure an individual\u2019s basic values.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmcnoea5l000d3b6ngz4pfey8@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            The study participants consistently associated being calm, conscientious, universalistic, agreeable, warm, secure, traditional and conforming with being a good person, more than with being a cool person. Being capable was considered to be both \u201ccool\u201d and \u201cgood\u201d but not distinctly either.
